Is the whole US government system a joke?

We are told over and over again that are vote matters but does it really? the election is decided by electoral votes which are not effected by the votes of people like you and me! am a crazy in thinking that our votes are the one who should be counted not just electoral votes. why should i be convinced that my vote matters when in the end it truly doesn't?
