How can the Catholic Church restore its public image after the recent allegations of covering up child abuse?

Firstly, do you think this recent media storm that is devastating the Vatican has peaked; do you think the worst is yet to come and it will be quite some time before the media finds something else to occupy it? Unless of course there’s another celebrity death like Michael Jackson to occupy the media; I bet the pope is praying for that! But what can the Catholic Church do to regain the public’s trust and respect? If the Vatican announced it would hunt down and bring to justice pedophiles within the church, would this help or would this be an admission of guilt?
