Christians, what do you feel should be the proper attitude and treatment in society towards gays?

Besides banning gay marriage, which is presumably a given, how do you feel that s should be regarded and treated in society? Are there any changes in laws and attitudes or actions that you would recommend as appropriate? Please do not infer my own opinions on gay issues from this question, which I hope will draw serious thoughtful answers.
