Amp stability @ non recommended ohm load?

Ok so I have a Jbl Gto-7001 which does 700wrms @ 2 ohms, I really want to run at 1ohm but the amp isnt stable at this load, I was told its ok to run any amp at 1 ohm as long as you don't drive the amp over the rated power @ 2 ohms, or start clipping the amp, have decent power wires and the amp is in a fairly decent position so it can shed its heat, can someone have some input on this?
